STAR Center Hosts Space Camp
A group of summer campers have enjoyed a rather unique week. The kids in grades three through five were at the STAR Center for an “Adventures in Space” summer camp. The campers watched the Air Evac helicopter land and took advantage of an opportunity to explore the craft. During the five days of activity, the young children have been enjoying the exploration of space through music, art and technology. Part of the learning at the camp gave attendees a chance to build rockets, paint murals and create alien music and better understand challenges faced by some children. “We think it’s very important for children without disabilities to know the importance of children with disabilities and be able to work together and to kinda get rid of the stigma of you can catch a disability so all of our camps are inclusive, ” said Amanda Day, a music therapist. Some of the attendees said they are already looking forward to next year’s camp.
