A Ripley man is dead after a weekend shooting and details are still very limited about who was responsible. Police officials would not talk to ABC 7 Eyewitness News about the shooting; however, neighbors said they clearly heard three gunshots around 3, Saturday morning. Multiple witnesses said the victim was driving through the neighborhood when he was shot and crashed into a van and onto a sidewalk. They say emergency officials gave the man CPR, but he died on the scene. Many neighbors that knew the victim said they believe he may have been the son of a Ripley police officer. They also said this makes them very concerned about their safety in their neighborhood. “Me and my neighbor were just talking the other day about how quiet it had gotten out here because they had gotten rid of a lot of the people that deal the drugs. You know, no loud music at 3 o’clock in the morning, no yelling, and drinking, and all that; and then this happens,” said resident Priscilla Ammons. The neighbors ABC 7 Eyewitness News spoke with say they did not see the person that fired the shots and believe he may have been on foot since they did not hear a car speed away. The TBI is assisting with the investigation.
