Regional Hospital Opens New Cath Lab
Diagnosing and treating matters of the heart just got a little easier for cardiologist at Regional Hospital. Monday, hospital leaders and staff celebrated the opening of their second catheterization lab. Regional was awarded its chest pain certification earlier this year by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Hospital leaders then invested $1.8 million toward their news heart catheterization lab, which will treat a number of heart-related issues, including permanent pacemaker insertions and removals. “It allows us to offer more versatility to the patients in terms of the timeliness of their heart procedures, and the availability of the facility,” said Dr. Louis Cunningham, chairman of Cardiology at Regional Hospital. Officials said the lab will enable doctors to evaluate the intensity of a patient’s chest pain, find blocked arteries during a heart attack and also conduct tests for coronary heart disease.
