It has been 50 years since they have graduated high school, but their legacy still lives on. Thursday, Jackson High School’s Class of 1961 celebrated its 50th high school reunion by becoming the first class to hang its composite photo in the historic school building. The original was built in 1907 and is now home to five office suites and 14 apartments. The buildings owner, John Allen said the pictures gives and old building new life. “By putting these pictures up, we hope to do other classes in the next few years and months, as their reunions come up,” said John Allen owner of the former high school building. “It’ll give people the opportunity to come back and go over to their old stomping grounds.” The school’s name changed as Jackson High and Merry High combined to become Jackson Central-Merry High School, which is now located on Lane Avenue in east Jackson.
