DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. – The grass roots organization Shoreline Alliance has taken their campgrounds fight to federal court. The campers have been fighting for nearly a year to stop the Tennessee Valley Authority from forcing them to tear down existing roofs, decks and porches and pay new length of stay requirements. Shoreline Alliance is a group of campers from the Perryville Marina Campground in Decatur County and includes campers from other campgrounds serviced by the TVA. Buddy Thomas is a member of the Alliance and thinks what the TVA is trying to do is not fair. “We’ve got money tied up in these places and then TVA wants to say come in and tear those things down…were the ones that paid to build them or paid for them if they were already built,” said Buddy Thomas. The TVA has responded with a statement: “TVA counsel are reviewing the complaint filed by the Shoreline Alliance and will respond to it at the appropriate time in court…The TVA thinks these activities are appropriate and necessary for good management of the federal property under its control”.
