The latest figures show 14 percent of people in Gibson County are out of work, and the Chamber of Commerce wants to fix it by making jobs a top priority. The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce is working on bringing jobs to the county and helping residents keep them. “We know that we are ready right now for an employer to come to Gibson County,” said Gil Fletcher, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. “We want to be better prepared than we are and we surely want to be prepared for what the jobs are going to be in the years to come.” To do that, the Chamber brought in a career coach Wednesday, and will offer Successful Business Tactics 201, which teaches you how to start your own business or improve the one you already work for. The Chamber said it’s also working with the state to recruit businesses for the county. Officials said they have the resources for automobile suppliers, food processors and metal stamping, but they’re open to any business. Six sessions of the Business Tactics class are going to be offered. The Chamber said the class is for Gibson County residents, but if there’s space, it’ll include non-county residents.
