EMA Testing Amphibious Vehicle

Jackson and Madison County emergency officials got to test drive a vehicle that could help improve search and rescue efforts on Friday. The hydratreck vehicle works as a four-wheeler, ATV, and boat all in one. Officials from the Madison County EMA, sheriff’s department, police department and both fire departments came out to get a first hand look at how the machine works. They have a price tag of about $50,000 or more. However, EMA director Marty Clements said it would be a huge asset to have during severe weather. “If we’re doing a search and rescue and get into the woods we run up on a creek or something, usually we’d have to turn around and go somewhere else or four-wheelers couldn’t go across. Well, all we do is just change gears on this and keep going,” said Clements. The next step for local officials is to look for available grants for the vehicle.
