Obion County Company Settles Wage Case
An Obion County producer of pork sausage products will pay $60,000 to settle a wage discrimination and racial harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
According to the Union City Daily Messenger the EEOC charged that Williams Country Sausage near Union City violated federal law by paying a black maintenance worker less than white counterparts and subjecting him to a hostile work environment.
The EEOC claimed that the company gave raises and paid higher salaries to all maintenance department employees except the department’s lone black employee and allegedly allowed a supervisor to regularly use racially offensive language toward the employee.
Williams Country Sausage processes meat and produces breakfast pork sausage products and sausage biscuit sandwiches for retail sale.
