Cayce McDaniel: Missing 15 Years

Fifteen years ago was the last time then 14-year-old Cayce McDaniel was seen in her home along U.S. 45 in Milan. Still, so many years later, her best friend Amber Hansen continues hosting candlelight vigils almost every year so people do not forget. “I just pray that one day we know what happened and that some sort of closure is brought and we can bring Cayce home,” Hansen said. Cayce and some friends were at a church party the night she disappeared. She was dropped off at her home around midnight, but was not reported missing until around 2:30 that afternoon. Milan Police Chief Tim Wright was a sergeant at the time and examined the scene. “Nothing appeared to be out of place,” Chief Wright said. “The mother said that she noticed nothing out of place. No clothes were missing as if she had run away.” Then and even now, Wright said they can only speculate about what may have happened to Cayce. Police have had a couple of suspects and several persons of interest, but not enough evidence to arrest them. He said they still follow-up on every tip, even though they have not gotten any tips this year. “This is an old case, but it’s not a cold case,” Wright said. “We still treat this case as if it happened yesterday.” Cayce’s cousin Tabitha Smith said she is not so optimistic. “I just feel like it will never be solved,” Smith said. “It’s just been too long and it’s almost gotten to where no one really cares.” If you have any information about this case, contact the Milan Police Department at (731) 686-3309.
