Man Caught During Break-In, May be Responsible for More
Police responded to an alarm call at the Federal Compress in the 200 block of Powell in Brownsville, Saturday. Upon arrival they found Jeremy Evans, 25, hiding in a closet inside the business. Authorities said Evans thought he had disarmed the alarm before entering. After he was arrested, police said he confessed to three other burglaries, which happened at the Professional Career Barber College, Haywood County Board of Education and El and Company Beauty Supply. “Well (the) first thing you feel is violated. I mean you feel that your personal space has been invaded and you feel like there’s no way to protect yourself. If they want to get in, they’ll get in,” said Eldridge Davis, owner of one of the businesses burglarized. Authorities said they recovered two televisions, which they believe may belong to the Haywood County Board of Education. Police said they are investigating to determine whether Evans is involved with any other burglaries in the area.
