Planes Seek Shelter AT TN Base

The military is flying planes to a Tennessee base to ride out Hurricane Irene.

Capt. Joseph Keith at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard base told The Associated Press on Friday that, for security reasons, he couldn’t specify how many planes had been brought to the base. However he characterized the traffic as “a lot” and said more was expected at the field, about 15 miles south of Knoxville.

Keith said aircraft from various service branches had been temporarily relocated to the base, which has been deemed far enough inland to keep the planes safe from hurricane winds.
