Veteran Receives Prestigious Award
A Scotts Hill veteran received a prestigious award on Saturday from the French Republic for his service in World War II. Several members of the community recognized him in a special ceremony. Henry Earl Buck received a letter from the French Republic’s president about two years ago informing him he had been named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. Saturday he was finally presented with the medal. French Honorary Consulate Ameile Degaulle told ABC 7 Eyewitness News the Legion of Honor is the most prestigious decoration in France. “It recognizes all the best people that have given the best service to France and I’m so glad that Mr. Buck was given that medal today for his service,” Degaulle said. Buck served as a radio operator for the U.S. Army in France during World War II. Degaulle believes most Americans may not realize the appreciation the entire French nation has toward our soldiers for their help defending their country. “We want to recognize and never forget the service of the American Army in World War Two,” she added. DeGualle also said that the Legion wants to locate all American World War Two veterans who served in France so that they too can be awarded.
