Bat Refuge Set For Kentucky
The Kentucky Natural Lands Trust says 453 acres of forest in western Kentucky has been acquired to help preserve a colony the endangered Indiana bat.
The trust says on its website the land consists of two tracts of what was privately held land within the Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge in Marshall County.
The 7,000-acre refuge near Benton consists mainly of hardwood forest and is home to hundreds of species of migratory birds. The land trust says the two pieces of land are very close to a known Indiana bat colony east of Paducah in McCracken County.
The trust says the land will eventually be added to the National Wildlife Refuge system.
