Local Plant Could Expand And Bring Jobs

A local factory is looking to expand, and if it does, it will mean dozens of new jobs for West Tennesseans desperately in need of work. Officials with the plastic molding company, Jones Plastic, recently asked the Benton County Industrial Board for some help. The county said the company is looking to expand 60,000 square feet, which would double its size. “They have a lot of contracts that they have to fulfill and they need an expansion to get this done,” said Benton County Mayor Barry Barnett. Barnett said they are still negotiating how much money Jones Plastic will get and how they will handle it in terms of grant money or loans. “It’s our duty as a county because it could mean up to 75 new jobs for our county so that’s what we’ll need,” Barnett said. “That’s what we’re looking for, so we’re going to look at every avenue to make this happen.” Barnett said the whole expansion will probably cost about $5 million, and they are hoping to expand by early next year. ABC 7 Eyewitness News tried to speak with Jones Plastics Monday, but they said it was too early to comment. Mayor Barnett said the county’s industrial board will meet again Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to discuss how it can help out.
