MS City Changes Vacation Program

The days of Southaven employees stockpiling vacation time will soon be gone.

Aldermen voted this week to limit the amount of vacation time city employees can earn to a maximum of four weeks per year, though employees who already get more than four weeks will continue to do so. Also, no employee will any longer be able to carry over vacation time from year to year.

Under the new policy, any unused vacation time can’t be taken the next year but will instead go into the state retirement system, , where employees will get credit toward their retirement benefits.

Mayor Greg Davis tells The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/q1AtEe ) the change was made to get accrued vacation time off the city’s books.
