Friday marks the official start of the last holiday of Summer. That means many drivers will hit the highways for the three-day Labor Day weekend, but you will not be alone. Law enforcement officers across the state are not taking a holiday this weekend. They will be working overtime in hopes of keeping unsafe and impaired drivers off the roads. “You can’t beat the system,” said Lieutenant Jerry Elston of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. It’s a gamble, if you choose to speed, to drink and drive. We may not catch you this time but sooner or later, we will catch you.” The THP is also conducting increased patrols and traffic stops throughout the long Labor Day holiday weekend.
