Cathey Resigns from Milan Schools

The embattled middle school principal, whose violent fight with another teacher and coach remains heavy on the minds of many has stepped down. According to superintendent of schools, Doctor Mary Reel, Sonya Cathey turned in her resignation letter Friday afternoon, which took effect immediately. Both Cathey and Milan Middle School teacher and coach Julius “Doc” Roberson were suspended without pay following the August 14 incident. Last week, Cathey requested that aggravated assault charges be dropped against Roberson. He is scheduled to return to work next Monday.
