County Offices Moving in the Courthouse
County leaders began a long process, Wednesday of shuffling around offices in the Madison County courthouse. The move will bring the property assessors office from its current location in the New Southern Building, which leaders said will save $65,000 a year in rent. Every office in the third floor, including code enforcement, personnel and even county the county mayor’s office will be moved. Mayor Jimmy Harris agrees the change will be better for the residents they serve. “If you’re making a conveyance of property or buying a piece of property and you need to go to the register’s office, the tax, uh, the property assessor’s office of the trustee’s office, it’s all right here in one building,” said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris. “You don’t have to go across the street and traipse back and forth between locations.” A conference room and an old courtroom have been turned into space to supply the demand for more space. Mayor Harris is hopeful the move will be completed by the end of November.
