You will soon be able to buy liquor in the Lexington city limits and several residents there are eager to own a store. Mayor Bobby Dyer said after the packaged liquor store referendum passed last week, he has had several people come in and inquire about how to obtain a liquor sales license. First, the city board has to establish ordinances as to how many stores there can be in the city and where they can set up shop. As for those interested in opening a store, they will have to go through a thorough process as well. “It’s a very hard process because you have to go concurrently and get approved by the city, by the state, county, and all those steps have to be taken at the same time,” said Jackson liquor store owner, Matthew Cleek. Mayor Dyer believes it will be a few months before Lexington sees its first liquor store.
