THP Stepping Up School Zone Enforcement
Most schools in West Tennessee have been back in session for several weeks now, meaning there is no excuse for not knowing where the school zones are and when you need to slow down. But in case you need to be reminded, the Tennessee Highway Patrol is stepping up its School Zone Enforcement by assisting local police and sheriff’s departments with a “Back-to-School” enforcement campaign. State troopers are specifically targeting those who speed in school zones and pass stopped school buses. “Safety is utmost in a school zone. People have got to realize that there is no lenience. said Lt. Brad Wilbanks of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. “If it says ’15’, we mean ’15’, not ’25’, not 10 over. Do what the school zone says.” The fine for speeding in a school zone is up to $500.
