If you are quiet enough you may hear the ghosts of Indian tribes from the past during the 29th Annual Archeofest, which is underway at Pinson Mounds State Park. Archeofest kicked off Friday with “Area School Day”, which is designed just for kids to help them learn a little bit more about archeology. The event is an opportunity for people form around the area to learn about the mounds, archeology and the Native American culture. There are demonstrations of things such as flint napping, pottery making and bow shooting throughout the weekend. Pinson mounds was occupied by Native Americans from around 100 B.C. until around 100 A.D. “A lot of times folks think about archeology as somewhere else, but this gives us the chance to share with them that archeology is right in our backyard, said Tim Poole, department manager at Pinson Mounds. The free event continues through Sunday at Pinson Mounds State Park near Pinson.
