Family, Neighbors Speak Out About Gregg St. Stabbings
Both family members and neighbors are speaking out Sunday, after police said a Jackson man allegedly stabbed two people and injured another. Jackson police said Edgar Hernandez, 24, entered his estranged wife’s home early Saturday morning in the 100 block of Gregg Street, attacked her boyfriend, and stabbed him in the chest, left side, fingers and ear. They said when his wife and her friend intervened, the wife suffered a sprained finger and her friend was stabbed in the right arm. “I could not believe it when my grandson came in there…he said ‘Granny, we have almost had a killing on this street,'” said Dorthy Little, a Bemis resident of more than 50 years. Police charged Hernandez with attempted first degree murder, especially aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, simple assault and evading arrest. “Something had to be said for him to react like that,” said Hernandez’s brother, Michael Hernandez. He said his brother and sister-in-law have a one-year-old daughter and are legally married, but have been separated for a year. He said the incident escalated when Hernandez saw his wife and her boyfriend at a local club, Friday night. “They both went clubbing at Taboo,” Hernandez said. “My brother was with some friends and this guy was with my brother’s wife.” Hernandez said his brother had been drinking before the incident. Michael said his brother’s wife, her boyfriend and the boyfriend’s wife all work at the same company. Police said a hold has been placed on Hernandez by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. When asked whether his brother was in the states illegally, Michael Hernandez said, “Yes, he’s here illegally.” He said his mother and father brought the family to the states from Mexico to get away from a place full of violence. Hernandez is due in court for arraignment Monday, September 19.
