Aspell Recovery Opens New Building
The Aspell Recovery Center held a dedication ceremony for its newest facility designed to provide quality care for women fighting addiction. Tuesday, center and city leaders cut the ribbon on Ms. Ann’s House, named after long-time board member, Ann Middleton. Leaders say Middleton was a supporter of Aspell and a key figure in developing treatment programs for women who were not able to afford treatment. Her husband, Gus spoke about Ann’s addiction and why centers like Aspell are vital. “Ann was one of the finest people I know, but she had maybe that is why it took so long to get into recovery,” said Gus Middleton, Ann’s husband. “She had such a dominating will that she was going to conquer this all by herself, but she can’t do it. Alcoholism doesn’t pick out bad people. It maybe makes them into derelicts because they can no longer support themselves, cause of this grip addition has on them, it affects all kinds of people.” Officials said women can live at Ms. Ann’s House for up to six months but are required to look for a job and attend self-help meetings.
