TVA Chief To Testify In Ash Trial

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s top executive is set to testify at the federal trial on lawsuits seeking damages from the utility’s coal ash spill.

With the third day of testimony set Wednesday in the bench trial, TVA President and CEO Tom Kilgore is scheduled to take the witness stand.

In testimony Tuesday, a TVA engineer said he monitored the ash storage ponds at the Kingston Plant from 2005 until the Dec. 22, 2008, spill of toxin-laden ash at the Kingston Plant west of Knoxville.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that the engineer, Matthew Williams, described how he and his team reported spikes in water levels during two earlier dike blowouts.

Williams said he made reports but generally did not get feedback on the information he sent.
