House of Pumpkins Being Built at Research Center

A sure sign that fall is here, the sight of pumpkins. There is no display in West Tennessee that truly captures the season better than the pumpkin display at the UT Ag Center in west Jackson. All of the 5,000 pumpkins, gourds and winter squash used in the annual display are grown on the research grounds. The UT pumpkin display will be unveiled at the Pumpkin Field Day, Thursday, Sept. 29, and will stay up until after Thanksgiving. “A big part of our purpose here is to show folks locally that you can grow pumpkins and how to use them in a display on your lawn,” said Robert Hayes of the West Tennessee Research and Education Center. “We also have merchants who can market and sell them.” There is no charge to look at the display or take a picture using it as a back drop.
