Freeman Enters Plea in Paris Murder Trial

In Henry County, the trial of accused killer Jefferson Freeman ended abruptly, Friday. The 29-year-old made a surprising “best interest” plea right in the middle of his first degree murder trial. Freeman is accused of killing his one-time friend and former Henry County bus driver Fred French, 66. With his plea deal, Freeman was allowed to plead to a lesser count of voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years. He will be eligible for parole after about seven years. Police believe Freeman strangled French in French’s home in Paris, last March. Investigators say after the murder, Freeman stole French’s truck, wallet and cell phone. Family members of French said days before his death, Freeman had been begging him for money and even threatened his life.
