Sheriff: Murder Suspect Responsible for Burglaries

ABC 7 Eyewitness News has new details on how investigators linked a Maury City man to the murder Frances Lilley, 89. Crockett County investigators said Dustin Cathey was involved in a string of burglaries. Police said he went on a crime spree this summer. The unemployed 24-year-old lived with his parents on Broadview Road just outside of Maury City. His new home for now is the Crockett County Jail. “We just had a rash of burglaries that just started happening July 26 in the Maury City,” said Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce. Investigators said in less than three weeks there where four burglaries within a five mile radius of where Dustin Cathey lived. In between the burglaries there was the August 4 murder of Frances Lilley. With the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department hot on his heels, deputies said on August 18, the day before his 24th birthday, Cathey walked in with his father and confessed to all four burglaries. He has been charged with three counts of aggravated burglary and one count of burglary, one count of vandalism, three counts of theft over $500. While in jail, authorities said they developed Cathey as a suspect in Lilley’s shooting death, charging him with first degree murder, on September 30. Cathey is to make his first court appearance on this latest charge, next Thursday.
