With lights and sirens ablaze, the Jackson Fire Department kicked off its 11th Annual Fire Prevention Week with a colorful parade, Monday evening. Dozens of families came out to see the emergency vehicles from Jackson and surrounding counties. The “Sea of Red” began at North Side High School and traveled throughout different Hub City neighborhoods before ending in downtown Jackson at the JFD’s Prevention and Training Center. “Lots of times they are the unsung heroes,” said Don Friddle, one of the man spectators. “They are not thought of very much until they are needed and then when they are needed somebody wants them there immediately.” Friddle added, “It’s good to see the people appreciate them and come out and support their activities here in Jackson.” The night’s parade also included events like an emergency vehicle display, live fire demonstrations and a fire safe house.
