Dozens of West Tennesseans gathered, Thursday evening, on the lawn of the Madison County courthouse to remember lives lost to domestic violence. The Women’s Resource and Rape Assistance Program, also known as WRAP, held its annual candlelight vigil. Organizers say Tuesday’s violent acts are a haunting reminder of just how real domestic violence is in our community. They said events like Thursday’s often given women the strength to get help. “Every year there is somebody that comes forward and tells me you saved my life 10 years ago or tells me my daughter needs your help or they need our help,” said Margaret Cole, Executive Director of WRAP. “They will get our number and they will call and that’s the first step to recovery.” Statistics show one in every three women in America will be affected by domestic violence in her lifetime.
