MS County Takes Loan To Meet Payroll

Adams County is taking out a $1.2 million loan to cover its payroll until enough taxes are collected.

The Natchez Democrat reports that such loans are allowed by state law, and supervisors must specify how the money will be spent.

County Administrator Joe Murray says Adams County’s payroll for October, November and December will cost about $1.4 million.

Board of supervisors’ attorney Bobby Cox says Adams County is not in the habit of taking out loans to cover expenses, but other counties do it routinely to cover government operating costs from October to January.
