County Commissioners Vote on Redistricting Plan

Some changes in the latest census figures could mean Madison County residents would be voting for new representatives in several county positions. Madison County commissioners met Monday night to review and vote on a redistricting committee’s plan which detailed the re-drawing of districts for county commissioners, board of education members and constables. The committee has been working for several weeks on re-alignment and recommended the plan based on 2010 census information. The commission approved the redistricting plan, by a vote of 17 to 7, with one commissioner absent. Efforts for school board members have been centered on aligning those more with county commission districts. “It may change a little bit in terms of where they vote and it may change a little bit in terms of representation, but for the most part it doesn’t change a whole lot,” said Stan Pilant, director of planning. Commissioners also tabled the appointment of Madison County constable to complete the unexpired term of Houston Butler who resigned.
