Jackson Seniors Respond to Social Security Increase

After two consecutive years of no cost-of-living increase, Social Security beneficiaries will receive a 3.6 percent raise next year. This may not seem like a lot, but for Jackson recipients of Social Security, they say it is a turn in the right direction. The Social Security Administration announced Wednesday, more than 60 million recipients will be getting a bigger check in the mail this coming January. This change is expected to result in the typical retiree getting an additional $40 per month and $500 per year; and just that little extra money on their checks has Jackson recipients feeling it can make a difference. “It’ll help pay those incidental bills that we have,” says John Few, of Jackson. The increase in benefits is tied to the inflation rate for the third quarter, compared with the third quarter of 2009, the last time an increase was announced.
