Landlord Fights Flood Restrictions

The owner of a Shelby County mobile home park that flooded this year wants an exemption from raising the height of his units.

Kingsway Green was swamped in May when the Mississippi River rose to its greatest height since 1937.

The 185-lot park was ordered to put all of its trailers at least a foot above the 100-year flood plain, according to The Commercial Appeal .

All of the homes in the park were declared unfit for habitation after the flood and must be destroyed.

In a letter to the Memphis and Shelby County Board of Adjustment Kingsway Green senior vice president Christopher R. Holloway claimed complying would amount to an impossible request that would cost millions of dollars. The company seeks a variance.
