Mother Of Shooting Victim Speaks Out

A judge has decided that the 17-year-old accused of murdering Lonzell Smith, 22, in Humboldt earlier this month will be tried as an adult. “It hurt to hear someone say that they shot your son and left him laying there with his eyes open and then you turn around and shot him three more times. It hurt,” said victim’s mother Sarah Smith. According to police, Kelcey Williams, 17, shot and killed Smith at a home on South 18th Avenue in Humboldt on Oct. 3. Lonzell’s mother was at the transfer hearing, Monday. According to Smith, three witnesses took the stand. She said the information gave her more details about what happened right before her son’s death. Smith stated the witnesses who testified said a young lady texted Lonzell and then showed up at his fiance’s home. “So she knocked on the door, and then she knocked on the window. Lonzell came to the door. She said Lonzell and her talked for a minute, and the next thing she knew the young man shot him, ” said Smith.
