Lexington Liquor Rules Set
Lexington leaders held a special called meeting Tuesday night to establish some of the ground rules for new liquor stores in the city. The board of aldermen voted that there would be no limit as to how many liquor stores could be in the city. The requirements, however, would be that the stores are at least 500 feet away from any school or church and the owner must be a Henderson County resident for at least one year. Several people in the community said they believe this is a step in the right direction for Lexington. ‘It keeps it within the county. You see Jackson, they have them all over. It’s keeping that revenue in that county. When they make that sale, that’s money that goes in that county. Same here. They make the sale, the money stays here.” Everything voted on on Tuesday is still tentative. The planning commission and the board will meet to vote again next month.
