Lane Shooting Case Bound to Grand Jury

The case of a Lane College student charged with shooting another student on campus will be heard by the grand jury. The victim and a witness both testified Thursday that they could not positively identify the alleged shooter, Courtney Bethea. But the judge found probable cause during the hearing and bound the attempted first degree murder case against the 25-year-old over to the next meeting of the Madison County Grand Jury. Court papers show just before the shooting, Bethea and the victim got into a fist fight, prompting Bethea to say he was coming back to the school and would shoot it up and did not care who was around. The 20-year-old student shot in the leg and foot on August 9 is now recovering at home in Detroit. Bethea’s bond was set at $150,000.
