Parsons Woman Missing For 12 Years Remembered
Friends and family held the first candlelight vigil for a young mother missing for 12 years, Thursday night. Kristie Baugus was reported missing October 27, 1999. Her case is still open, but officers admit, they have no leads. Kayla Hatley, Baugus’ daughter, told 7 Eyewitness News they held the vigil to raise awareness – not just about Baugus’ disappearance, but for others still missing. Hatley, 20, was just eight- years-old when family members reported her mother missing. Her brother, Dylan was just one at the time. “He does not even know who she is,” Hatley said. “He knows her because of pictures and videos, but as far as knowing memories, he doesn’t remember. And she has a granddaughter – a two-year-old that will never meet her grandmother and it just kills me.” Hatley said when her mom got caught up with the wrong crowd, she and her brother moved in with her grandmother. Still, they talked every day, but when her calls stopped, they got suspicious. Hatley said her mother was living with her boyfriend at the time, but she does not know what happened to her. “I wish I did know,” Hatley said. “If I did know, I wouldn’t probably be hurting as bad as I do today, but that’s just one of those things… I don’t know if I’ll ever find out what happened. I hope I do some day.” According to Hatley, since her mom was reported missing, police have had a few persons of interest, but no real suspects. “It’s the worst feeling in the world to not know. I would rather her have been in a car wreck or something. At least I would’ve known what happened. Whenever somebody goes missing, you just don’t know. You just can’t ever find out. It’s just a cold case. It’s just the hardest thing you could ever feel in your life,” she said. Even though it has been a long time since Baugus disappeared, her family still has hope. They are asking if you have any information about her disappearance to contact the Parsons Police Department at (731) 847-6358.
