Debit Fees Rescinded: Some Customers Still Unhappy
Local West Tennessee banks that were once charging debit card fees are now taking back their decisions. However, for many customers, that news has come too late. It was just a month ago when customers learned they would be charged a certain amount for using their debit cards. Many customers we spoke with who could not afford the new charges say they had to move to smaller banks that did not have card fees. Now that they are finding out their old banks are taking back the very thing that made them leave, they say the damage has been done and will not switch back. “It was kinda hurtful to know that the less you got coming in, they wanna charge you but if you got more money coming in…they wouldn’t charge and I was like that just kinda…to me its like taking more from the poor,” said former Regions customer Emily McAlister. Local banks such as Regions and First Tennessee are both rescinding their debit card fees along with national banks Suntrust, Chase, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America.
