Whiteville Police Department Seizes Kilo of Cocaine
Whiteville Police Department said a routine traffic stop on October 31 led to the seizure of a kilo of cocaine which authorities said had a street value of more than $70,000. Police said they observed the driver making several turns without signaling. Upon their approach to the car, the officer said he smelled the strong odor of burning marijuana. “The driver stated that the night before that someone had smoked marijuana in the vehicle,” said Capt. Kenny Brown of the Whiteville Police Department. Capt. Brown said the odor of illegal drugs gave the officer probable cause to search the vehicle, which uncovered the kilo of cocaine on the rear floor board. Officials have charged James Earl Turner, Jr.,25, of Brownsville with possession of control substance with intent to manufacture, sell and deal along with making an improper turn. Authorities said he remains in police custody in lieu of $200,000 bond. Turner is due in court Tuesday.
