NAACP Asks City to Disapprove of Voter ID Law
The new Voter Photo ID law set to go into effect January 1 across the Volunteer State was part of the discussion during Tuesday morning’s Jackson City council meeting. The president of the Jackson-Madison County chapter of the NAACP, Harrell Carter requested that the city council adopt a resolution disapproving of the new Tennessee law. However, after discussion, no vote was taken on the matter. Mayor Jerry Gist told the council that no decision could officially be made on their part since there was no written resolution presented. Council members voiced concern that more needs to be done throughout the city to help registered voter obtain a photo ID.
