McKenzie leaders said they want residents to shop locally for the holidays, and they have a unique plan to encourage them to do just that. It is called the Big Win campaign. About 50 area stores will have tickets to give away for every $ 20 spent in their stores. When it gets closer to Christmas, all of the tickets will be collected and put in a drawing for prizes such as a HDTV, a digital camera, and gas money. They tried out big wins last year for the first time, and business owners said it was such a success, they could not wait to start again this year. “Small towns throughout Tennessee and throughout our country, it’s a struggle with the malls, and it’s very competitive to entice and motivate people to shop in your hometown,” said McKenzie Mayor Jill Holland. Big Wins continues until December 15 when the big drawing will be held at the city’s Holiday Open House.
