New Industry Coming to Martin

When Goodyear closed down over the summer, it was not just Obion County that was affected. Weakley County suffered the second biggest economic impact, but a new company is moving into Martin and they are hiring. Martin leaders welcomed Southern Belle Refrigeration. It is a family-owned business hoping to bring some jobs to the community, and also, bring life to a facility that has been abandoned for more than three years. Southern Belle will store cold and dry food products in an existing warehouse in Weakley County . The company is out of Tupelo, Mississippi, where they have their only other warehouse. President Joe Estess said Southern Belle will hire 25-50 employees in the next year, and maybe more as they continue to grow. Openings range from office jobs to forklift drivers. Estess said the company is scheduled to open at the beginning of December.
