Police Using Cameras to Watch for Crime
Dresden Police Chief Randal Walker believes there is no better way to put potential gang members away, than to catch them in the act, and he said he has found a way to just do that. Chief Walker said his officers have seen an increase in vandalism, drug crimes, robbery, and gang-like activity. “We have some members that we’ve been told are members of the “Crip Gang”, said Chief Walker. Residents said the gangs are a worry in town and they think the newly installed “gang cameras”, as they are called by the police department, will help. “These cameras were $100 or so and they did the job,” continued Chief Walker. Officials said the cameras have already been helpful in arresting individuals involved in vandalism. Chief Walker hopes they will help his officers stop the growing gang activity and crime problem in Dresden. Chief Walker stressed gang activity will not be tolerated. And though he believes there are “locals” involved in this new crime wave, he also believes outsiders from larger nearby cities could be partly to blame. The department currently has three surveillance cameras placed where needed. Those who live in Dresden said they appreciate this proactive approach.
