Bradford Meals on Wheels

More than 400 Gibson County senior citizens saw a friendly face on Thursday, and a home cooked meal; which some say for them, doesn’t happen every day. “This started for our home bound senior citizens. There are a lot of senior citizens that are home alone on Thanksgiving and we like to provide them with a traditional Thanksgiving meal,” Pam Dethloff said. A meal, that many volunteers said these seniors do without on a daily basis. “We have tens of thousands of senior citizens who do not have three meals a day,” Senator Lowe Finney said. The Gibson County Office on Aging does not want Thanksgiving to be one of those days – a time when many are alone on a day we all celebrate with family and loved ones. “Oh, they love it and they love the motorcycle riders coming to the doors to bring them that meal,” Dethloff said. “Oh, it means a lot, because I can’t get around with my health problems,” Mildred Stewart said. Between all the fun of preparing meals for the less fortunate on this Thanksgiving Day, many realize how blessed they really are. “It helps me to know that I’m giving back to help others, that are not as fortunate as I am,” Rachel Arrington said. “My grandfather always used to tell me, be nice to the people on your way up, because you’re going to pass them on your way down,” Congressman Stephen Fincher said.
