Former Liberty Basketball Player Dies in Crash
Madison County investigators revealed that a 2002 GMC pick-up that struck a deer on Perry Switch Road Friday night has left a former Liberty Basketball player dead. Investigators say a deer crashed through the front windshield and exited the back windshield, striking 16-year-old passenger, Shuntarius Sinclair of Jackson. The driver, 37-year-old Markarios Curry continued to drive several miles, eventually stopping near South Highland. Officials say Curry admitted later to having a few drinks that evening. Records show Sinclair was transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and was later air lifted to Vanderbilt Trauma Center in Nashville, where she later died Saturday afternoon. “We believe the blunt of the injuries was in the face area, as the the deer apparently traveled through the passenger compartment of the vehicle and striked Ms. Sinclair in the face,” says Sheriff David Woolfork. Curry along with the two other passengers, besides Sinclair, ages 17 and 15, were all transported to Jackson Hospital, where they were treated and later released. Sheriff Woolfork says speed and alcohol were possibly contributing factors, and they are in the process of interviewing the other two minor passengers.
