Traffic Crashes Down in Jackson
There is good news for drivers to travel in Jackson on a daily basis. The number of traffic crashes are down. According to the Jackson Police Department , of the just over 2100 traffic crashes, this year from January to October, there were 471 crashes with injury, an eight percent reduction from last year. But there have been eight fatalities from the crashes this year compared to only three in 2010. Alcohol was cited as contributing to the fatal crashes involving tow people this year. The city is collecting data on where to beef up traffic enforcement with a speed monitoring device. “We can use this equipment to ever effectively monitor the traffic, measure the speeds ans to see what time, what day of the week even,” said Ft. Ron Adams of the Jackson [Police Department’s Traffic Division. “We need to send officer in that area to work.” In addition to the new tool, the city also uses manpower, red light cameras and a mobile speed enforcement van to help improve traffic safety.
