USPS Invites Comments on Processing Move

It is a hot topic here in West Tennessee, the possible closure of the Postal Service processing facility in Jackson. Thursday night, nearly 50 people gathered at South Side High School to learn more about why the U.S Postal Service is considering this change. Postal officials said closing the Jackson operation and shifting processing operations to Memphis would save $3.1 million a year, but admits it could cost 23 workers their jobs. Many who live in Jackson said keeping the mail processing operations here is vital. “I feel like maybe if enough people want it, we might get to keep it if they realize how bad we need it,” said local resident Troy Sullivan. This is not first time the Postal Service has considered shutting down the Jackson facility. There is no word on when the Postal Service could make a final decision.
