A Jackson woman is thankful to be alive after a fire broke out at her east Jackson apartment, Friday night. According to fire investigators, the blaze broke out around 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Rhea Street. Firefighters said when they arrived on the scene, the duplex was fully engulfed with thick smoke coming from the right side apartment. investigators said it appears the fire began in the back of the duplex, however how it started is not known at this time. A woman who lived in the home was able to escape and there were no injuries. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours to extinguish hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
