Students of North Parkway Middle School were treated to a guest speaker who is truly American royalty. Miss America 1987 Kellye Cash Sheppard spoke to the students about her historic win. Cash, who calls Gibson County home, is the only Miss Tennessee to ever win the Miss America crown. Next month will actually mark 25 years since she was crowned. She said still today her message for young people is the same. “I hope that they get that, no matter what their ambition or goal in life is, it doesn’t have to be a crown, but it’s attainable, said Miss American 1987 Kellye Cash Sheppard. “I mean i was a kid, a regular student, no necessarily any different from, than any student here in school.” Cash is allowing North Parkway to borrow her crowns from Miss America and Miss Tennessee as well as the trophies she won. They will be on display at the school throughout the week.
