Christmas dinner is something many look forward to every year, but it seems many West Tennessean’s are allowing others to take over the kitchen during this holiday season. “I really appreciate not having to do all the cooking and be able to spend more time with my family,” said Linda Elam. And many local businesses are happy to take on the responsibility. “It’s real good, we sure can’t complain, it’s an increase over last year,” said Heavenly Ham owner, Mike Smith. Smiths says even though times are rough, people still want to have a good meal for Christmas and the family. “This one year, everybody splurges a little bit,” continued Smith. Heavenly Ham in Jackson said they estimate selling more than 16,000 hams and turkeys for Christmas. This year, being the biggest season yet for many Jackson businesses. “I just don’t have a lot of extra time, so I’d much rather drive to Jackson and know I’m going to get good, quality service. It just makes my holiday a lot less stressful,” continued Elam. Residents also said, what they would pay at a grocery store isn’t that much cheaper than going to a specialty store like Heavenly Ham or Honeybaked Ham to have their meat already prepared.
